Supporting Seniors
The The Warren County, VA Sheriff's Office also demonstrates its commitment to older adults and vulnerable residents through programs focused on safety, support, and peace of mind. Initiatives such as Project Lifesaver help protect individuals who may wander due to cognitive conditions, while Operation Telephone provides regular check-ins that reduce isolation and promote wellbeing among seniors. The Senior ID Program gives families and caregivers an added layer of preparedness by helping maintain important identifying information in case of emergency, and TRIAD strengthens partnerships between law enforcement, service providers, and older adults to address safety concerns and improve quality of life. Together, these programs reflect a proactive approach to protecting vulnerable populations, supporting independence, and strengthening community care.

Project Lifesaver
Project Lifesaver relies on pulse-carrier wave radio-frequency technology, complimented by a search and rescue team that has received special training. People who use the services wear a personalized one-ounce wristband that emits a constant tracking signal. When caregivers notify the local Project Lifesaver agency that the person is missing, a search and rescue team responds to the wanderer's area and starts searching with the mobile locator tracking system. Search and rescue times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes.
Project Lifesaver is more than wearable locating technology; it's a program comprised of components specifically designed to protect "at risk" individuals such as Alzheimer's patients or children with down syndrome or autism who are prone to wandering.
Since 2006, the Warren County, VA Sheriff's Office been a member of the Project Lifesaver community to offer our residents the most widely used and proven most effective SAR program designed for "at risk" populations. Project Lifesaver bridges the gap between first responders and their communities. Project Lifesaver reduces the time, funds, and manpower needed for search and rescue missions involving a special needs individual.
Operation Telephone
Operation Telephone program is a Free service to provide members of our community with peace of mind.
Managed through the 911 Center if they don't hear from you, they will reach out to you and if needed, a deputy will come to your residence to check on you.
Operation Telephone Call participants are asked to call the 911 center each day. If the office is not contacted by 3 pm, they call the participant's home. If they are unable to make contact by phone, a deputy is dispatched to the residence to check on the individual. The service can be suspended or discontinued at any time.
Senior ID Program
In 2025, the Warren County, VA Sheriff's Office began issuing seniors with photo ID cards that list their names, addresses, allergies, and list the prescriptions they take. These ID cards do not replace government ID cards such as a Driver's license and may not be acceptable in businesses requiring ID. They are another form of identification that the senior would have on them in the event of a medical emergency.
TRIAD
The Warren County, VA Sheriff's Office involvement with the Front Royal/Warren Co. TRIAD Council began in 2001. The Sheriff's Office provides a deputy representative to attend monthly meetings and assist with fundraising and other program support.
The concept of TRIAD equates to the following three tiers or triangle of service to the senior citizen community:
- Senior Citizen involvement as active members of the council. Seniors are provided with the opportunity to directly participate in any or all of the meetings and all decision-making processes.
- Law Enforcement involvement provides crime prevention education regarding awareness and prevention of scams, property crimes, fraud, community safety, and home security strategies.
- Support Agencies, Organizations, and Community Partners all function as a combined consultant base and or providers of senior support services within the North Western Virginia Area. Examples of these include Churches, Warren Co. Social Services, Warren Co. Senior Center, Healthcare Organizations, and Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging.
